Problem
In-house content team needed a tool with robust features to create asset collections. The tool they were using was text based, buggy and performed simple tasks too slowly.
Solution
I Designed a “WYSIWYG” format tool with intuitive iconography and user functions. Included features such as an extensive search function, as well as edit, add, delete, sort assets options on a single screen.
How I contributed
• I scheduled and conducted user interviews where I collected feedback to conceptualize a “WYSIWYG” layout to aid in streamlining their process.
• Optimized work flow by adding various new functions such as a new draft function allowing content team to save their progress.
• Included an in depth multi-metric search function yielding more productive and relevant results.
Product Development and Improvement
BEFORE
Shown to the right is the buggy and slow tool the content team was using to create lesson catalogs. The most prominent pain points were the text based nature of the format and the limited options for saving draft collections.
Once the content team reviewed their collection with other departments for approval they wold have to recreate their work within the Actively Learn framework! Not very efficient, I know.
They also needed a more in depth search function that allowed for a wide range of search criteria.
Results
AFTER - WYSIWYG View of collection
1. Awesome WYSIWYG display of assets so content team could see the visual aesthetic of their assets.
2. Search function allows for batch searches with multiple metrics entered into search field.
3. Panel on right of search screen allows for editing on the fly; sorting, deleting and adding assets.
4. When user has completed their search they get a preview of how the assets will appear to teachers on the Actively Learn website.
5. The added draft function allows users to save their collection, present it for approval, then publish within the Actively Learn system.
6. Users have the ability to hide assets in their collection and recall them at a later time.
7. Users can now include a placeholder for assets which have not yet been published.
Search Screen
When user selects “Add Assets” they are directed to this new search screen. It allows users to enter search criteria for multiple lesson tiles with the option to reorder, add and delete assets.
Asset Collection Screen
Below are the icons I designed to indicate the functions to hide, delete and reorder assets from this screen. When the user hovers over the top corners and middle of each tile.
