Problem

Use a financial literacy curriculum for a broad age range of users and create a realistic but risk-free environment where users can experiment with budgeting, investing, and debt management.

Solution

Provide the users a gamified platform to offer adaptive learning paths, so users can start at their knowledge level and progress comfortably. Include what-if scenarios so users can compare the outcome of different decision paths to gain Knowledge and confidence of making future financial decisions.

How I contributed

• Collaborated with an instructional designer to shape the art direction of interactives ensuring accessibility, engaging and comprehensive for users across a broad age range.

• Designed with touchscreen users in mind, considering mobile and tablet compatibility by keeping interactions straightforward with clear prompts, navigation, and guidance.

• Incorporate universally recognized icons and symbols, age-appropriate typography, contrast and color choices to support users with varying accessibility needs.

• Involved in quality checking animated videos for visual consistency, audio clarity and technical standards to reduce revision timeframe.

• Mapped out user journeys using Draw.io for “Choose your own adventure” interactives to assure accuracy of correct and incorrect user paths.

• Offered my skills and knowledge to contribute to the art direction, consistency, and effective gamification of platform.

Ideation and Platform Development

The product needed to be fun and engaging to keep young users motivated. We developed an effective user journey to keep users progressing forward with encouraging messages along the way. The curriculum presented various real life financial scenarios users would face in the future. Users needed a space to make mistakes safely and not feel the real world ramifications. One of the featured interactives was a “Choose Your Own Adventure” format where users made their own choices to safely see the outcome with no real-life consequences.

Incentives were critical to keep users motivated. We developed a “Power Up Station”where users could earn coins to buy items for their avatar. As the user progressed through the modules bonus items were unlocked for purchase. Items offered varied in price so users were encouraged to actively save for more expensive items.

Prototyping and User Testing

I collaborated closely with an Instructional designer to generate new ideas and concepts for asset designs and find creative solutions to reinforce learning objectives.

Worked in concert with a DEI consultant, implemented feedback to ensure inclusivity and accessibility throughout the product.
I utilized Zeplin when passing on mid-fidelity wireframes to developers and included detailed notes for clarity of functions and behaviors.

Proposed and contributed questions for user testing script. Participated in video testing to take detailed notes and gathered valuable feedback from users. Collaborated with User experience researcher to articulate impertinent findings to include in the User experience Report presented to the client and stakeholders.
